United Abominations

While we were away on our trip a couple of weeks ago Megadeth released another Album and I was probably the first person in Branson, MO to pick it up.

On this CD you get a feeling that Dave Mustaine knows the end is near, but which end am I talking about? In 2002 Megadeth was disbanded because of a freak injury to his left arm that made it impossible for him to make a fist, much less play a guitar. After 5 months of rehab he had to re-teach his left hand how to play the guitar. In that same year, Dave Mustaine found Christ. (Playing golf with Alice Cooper might have had something to do with that). Throughout Megadeth’s career you could see that Mustaine was looking for something, and it looks like he has finally found it.

"I've tried everything in my life. I was baptized Lutheran and brought up as a Jehovah's Witness. My mom was Jewish. I experimented with black magic and witchcraft and read the satanic bible. But I became a Christian about three years ago and that's a positive thing."

so what is this end I am referring to? I imagine it's two-fold Mustaine was told that his injury may can come back, leaving him unable to perform, and thus the end of his career. the second being with the end of the world. Mustaine has never been a fan of the UN, or world governments in general, as witnessed by earlier songs in his career (Peace sells but who's buying, Symphony Of Destruction), but on this album he lets go with both barrels taking aim at the UN in the title track and the US gov't in Washington is next… and he's not subtle about it...

Disengage their minds, sabotage their health
Promote sex, and war, and violence in the kindergartens
Blame the parents and teachers; it's their fault, "Annuit Coeptis"
Attack the church dynamic, attack the family
Keep the public undisciplined till nothing left is sacred and
The "have-nots" get hooked and have to go to the "haves" just to cop a fix

One of my favorite track is Never Walk Alone...A Call To Arms

When you feel that somethings wrong
Ill shelter you and keep you warm
Ill never let you walk alone
I loved you when you still hated me
Im comin and it wont be long
Time to reap what I have sewn
Never ever let you walk alone
I know your enemy it once was me

There is no doubt about who he's referring to here?

May God bless you Dave, and may he use you to draw a dying generation to him. After seeing how some have reacted to the news that you are now a Christian, you will need him more now than ever.

I have been listening to this album the last few days. At first, I thought it was a "bit" dark and heavy, but after repeatedly smacking my head against a concrete wall, I found that I was right. In all seriousness, the songs on this album are brutally dark and angry, with perhaps 2 exceptions. If anyone is concerned that becoming a Christian took the edge off of Mustaine's music - have no fear. This album is full-tilt Megadeth.
