Currently the Media is doing everything it can to find a bright spot in the economy, to prop it up as to help out the current administration. Last quarters growth was an anemic 2.4% growth, however throughout President Bush's tenure the media was constantly harping about how we were in a recession and did everything it could, like chicken little, to proclaim the sky is falling. It worked. George Bush could do no right, and the media played a big roll in getting Democrats elected in 06 and 08. once the Democrats took over congress in 06 that is when the economy started to head south.

Ive been saying for years that Dr. visit co-pays are too low and people will just use it because it is there not necessarily because anything is wrong, which leads to putting a burden on the medical system.

In the push by those in higher education to get everyone into college, we have neglected to train people vocationally, in something that would allow them to make a living in something they trained to do.

Thanks to the Arizona illegal immigration law, a school in Illinois has canceled a trip to a basketball tournament in Arizona that the girl's basketball team had worked hard to gather the money required to attend. The school is now citing "safety reasons" for not allowing them to attend.

2) however the population rise in our schools has not grown significantly in the same 25 year period (a large chunk of that has been Hispanic, and with our current laws we cant know if they are here legally or not)

I was pondering what is the difference between a Conservative and Liberal/Progressive, not a Republican or Democrat, because as we have seen some swing both ways.
Conservative: Protect the innocent, punish the guilty. No real explanation required on this one
Liberal: Punish the innocent, protect the guilty. Pro-abortion, anti-military, anti-gun, anti-death penalty. Any law that is not based on a direct action on a person punishes the innocent. A great example is the gun laws. Only the law-abiding citizen obeys them. In Arizona they have just passed Constitutional carry, or carrying a concealed weapon without a license. Do you think the gang-bangers that shot up Arrowhead mall in Muskogee had concealed weapon permits?
Liberals support killing an innocent child (and get mad when a woman changes her mind), but want to protect a mass murderer from getting put down like the animal he is.
Conservative: Be responsible for your own life, don’t depend on Gov’t. Again, no explanation required.
Liberal: Don’t worry about anything, the Gov’t is here to help. Every Gov’t program sucks the life out of who it was supposed to help. For the last 50 years the Gov’t has been trying to help blacks and yet they are no better off now than they were 50 years ago (yet for some reason the black voting block seems to stay with the party of the KKK & Planned Parenthood, but I digress). The most recent example is the perpetual unemployment extension. If you get money for doing nothing, there is no reason to go out and find a way to earn money. But we can go back just a few years earlier, where when the gov’t under the guide of trying to help, got people into houses they could not afford.
Conservative: The private sector can do a better job than the Gov’t. Noticing a trend? The conservative ideals aren’t all wrapped up in legalese or have to be broken down, they are just common sense ideals.
Liberal: The Gov’t knows what is best for you. However the more money the Gov’t spends the less money you have. Less money to give to charities, less money to hire people, less money to make investments, less money to buy stuff, less money to improve your life. There are things the Gov’t should take care of, however. Interstate highways, military on the federal level, police, fire and infrastructure on the local level. Most everything else can be and should be taken care of by private citizens, or at least the local Gov’t.
Conservative: Believe in the constitution & the founding father’s ideals.
Liberals: Believe the constitution is a roadblock, I already mentioned the 2nd Amendment. They love to tout the 1st amendment, unless they cant find an audience on the radio airwaves. They can scream and shout as loud as they want when they see something they don’t like, but when it’s something they don’t agree with, they claim it to be dangerous. They use the tax code to stifle arguments (Churches can’t politic, but Unions can). They scream separation of church and state (as seen with the national day of prayer, or prayers at football games). They aren’t establishing a state run religion. Yet they push the mother earth cult to extremes, via the global warming hoax.
I find it interesting, and quite telling when a non Christian takes the Lords name in vain. It tells me that deep down inside they know that taking a false god's name won't offend said god.
The most recent example is Tiger Woods when he screamed "Jesus Christ!" after a tee shot. Woods is Buddhist, so why didn't he scream out Buddha's name in disgust?

This morning President Obama is going to announce opening up the eastern seaboard, and the gulf for offshore drilling. In and of itself this is a GREAT thing, and would be one of the few things I would agree with this president about... however... He has also been pushing Cap and Tax, which is surely the intended goal of all of this. so unless the bill comes up, without any stings to Cap and Tax, then unfortunately it will need to be voted down as well.
It will be interesting to see which Democrats will be against it before they were for it.

They found that these employees on average make $30k more than their civilian counterparts.

Ah, the end of the football season is upon us once again, and once again after everything is played out we still wont know who the national champion really is. Oh, the BCS will "crown" a winner, mostly based upon human rankings... you know, kinda like figure skating.
I have a solution, and it isnt a playoff system, mostly because the pollsters will have their favorites, and the system will be rigged similar to the way it is now, so we still wont have an "even playing field".
No, the solution is easy, scrap the BCS, and go back to the traditional bowl system we had before the BCS, there will still be arguments, but at least the winner wont be determined by style points.

Apparently this script was written before Obama took office, and there has already been a shakeup on the set (production was shut down for two weeks to "retool") maybe Obama didnt like something painting him in a negative light...

It was just announced that 21 police officers will be laid off, and according to the COPS program 3.5 million is what is needed to pay for 18 Police officers for a 3 year period.
So it stands to reason if Dewey Bartlett didnt needlessly give away 7.1 million of our tax dollars to BoK, not only would we not have to lay any police officers off, we could have hired an additional 15 police officers with out taking any gov't money.

So Tulsa is getting a(nother) basketball team that we won’t support. We have been told that the taxpayers won’t have to foot any of the bill… does that mean the WNBA is going to pick up the $200,000 in police overtime that Palmer says it will take to patrol the games at the BoK?
In case you forgot… Chief Palmer says this BOK-related overtime will definitely deplete the current police overtime budget before the year ends in June 2009, adding that for every ten events at the BOK, it will cost the City at least $100,000 in police overtime hours. (The Detroit Shock had 19 home games last season)

The mayor says she has an alternative plan that will cut the three-million dollars. Some suggestions include eliminating 18 more positions and canceling the police academy scheduled for March.
Won't that just increase the overtime paid out?
But Wait! There's More! What about the Community Oriented Policing Services grant, that was approved by the City Council? you know the one... that will "give" the city 3.5 million dollars for... wait for it... 18 new positions!
Just how far away are any one of us away from breaking some of these obscure laws/rules?
1) Tort Reform… now I’m not talking about limiting rewards in legitimate cases, but instead I’m referring to frivolous lawsuits which clog the court system, waste a Dr’s time, and increase malpractice insurance. If a case is deemed to be frivolous, then the plaintiff must pay court costs, and the wages of the Dr. for the time he had to spend defending the case. There will still be those that will try and work the system, but it should cut down the number of cases.
2) Ban advertising by pharmaceutical companies outside of trade magazines. A study showed a few years ago that pharmaceuticals spend 2x more on advertising than they do research, advertising has increased 330% in the last decade. This will stop self diagnosis, which more often than not leads to wasting the Drs time, but he has to run tests to cover his ass.
3) Allow insurance companies to compete across state lines, this will open up the pool of clients, which should drive down the price.
4) Allow small businesses to pool their resources in a co-op (not like the Government’s plan) which will allow them to lower costs through better buying power.
There is one more issue that the gov’t could do to help out those who have lost their jobs. They could assist with the COBRA plan. For those who are unfamiliar with COBRA, the recently released employee can stay on the company plan, but they must pay full price for it. Most avoid this because they cannot afford the lost of a paycheck AND having to pay up to 3x what they were paying for insurance. The Gov’t assist would pay the difference between the full price and the (former) employee’s contribution until COBRA runs out or until a new insurance policy is obtained.
Everyone else would default to Medicaid
This morning LaFortune made a laughable comment on KRMG about "Integrity and Trust" and the Mayoral Race. Truth is, I don't trust either one of the party candidates. But I'm not going to reward bad behavior by the Republican candidate by voting for him. We cant have reform in the Republican party if we keep electing candidates who are really Democrat lite.

Yesterday I heard on the radio about the success of the month long Cash for Clunkers program that actually came in under its 3 billion dollar budget!
If you are going to change the rules midgame, I guess you can say whatever you want, but the program was originally supposed to last until November 1st and was allocated 1 billion dollars, which it ran out of within a week.
Just like every other program the Gov't gets its paws into, they have no clue of the price (always on the low side), or the end game. Do you really think that things will be different if they take over heath care?

We've all heard this starting with the Arena, which though it is apparently off to a good start, it will never pay for itself.
One (new) reason for this is the new downtown ballpark (yearly maintenence, and eventual declining useage are two others). Again, they are saying, if we build it, they will come, the problem with that saying this time is that they are taxing the very area that they want people to come to. What business in their right mind, especially one that would not directly (or even indirectly) benefit from the ball park want to pay more taxes, just for the benefit of being inside the "loop"? I can guess that we will have even more empty buildings downtown once the full impact of this tax is felt.
This leads me to our own "bridge to nowhere". for those who do not know, there are plans afoot to make a pedestrian bridge across the river at 41st street. just what is on the other side of the river at 41st? nothing, nil and nada... at least nothing that a pedestrian would want to go to. If they want development on the west side, a pedestrian bridge is not going to do anything, it needs an automotive bridge, one with "city" speed limits.
Once real useable infrastructure is built up, businesses and other entities will come, just look to Tulsa Hills as an example, it is booming, and getting more traffic on a daily basis from my observations.
After all the dust has settled ::cough:: I would rather buy a "foreign" car like Honda or Toyota, which is made in the USA, than an "American" car that is made in China.

He may be president durring a civil war.

Like many of you I regularly drive south on Yale and get on west bound I-44. There are two turn lanes there, it seems most people think that the inside lane is a free shot into the other lane on the access road to the I-44 on ramp, even if there is someone in that lane. Today the democrats said no to the "Big 3", at least until they show them what their business plan is concerning the bailout money... my question is why havent they been doing this all along? 350 billion has already been handed out, and to Who? For what purpose? What is their plan? How do we know this money... OUR money... is being used properly and that we are not just throwing good money after bad? Where is the accountability?
When it comes to Obama's cabinet and other positions (8000 in all), he wants to know some pretty specific information about who is applying for the jobs. His team is sending out a 63 question questionnaire, that some are calling "invasive". It's too bad that the media didn't give him the same type of treatment before we hired an unknown to the highest office in the land.
Al Gore has said he was not interested in a position in Obama's administration heading up issues of the environment, and why would he? He's much more successful in the private sector with his sky-is-falling rhetoric, and if he is in a position of the gov't, he might be held accountable for his actions.
Citi announced today that they are stopping the forclosures of properties where the owners are working in good faith to retain their homes. If more banks would do this it would help on many levels...

and I see I have lost well over 20% of my retirement thanks to those bozos.

The root of the problem is that banks, under the "direction" of the federal gov't, loaned money to people to buy houses they could not afford.
Unfortunately, it only got worse from there. If the banks just did minimum of what the Gov't told them to do, we would be looking at a much smaller crisis, because we would be dealing with lower priced houses going into foreclosure, instead, banks gambled on the price of houses continually going up, and started loaning to everyone, whether they could afford if or not.

Last week it was unveiled that a 6 story multi-million dollar “hotel” would be built for the chronically homeless at 10 S. Yale… 4 miles from established services for the homeless that are already downtown.
Those for the project are referring to the dissenters as NIMYs (short for “Not in my backyard”)
So who are some of these neighbors that will be affected? You need to look beyond just a one or two block area, as this will have an effect in at least a one mile radius, especially if there are good “targets” available.
Businesses along Admiral between Harvard and Sheridan, which includes a busy QuikTrip and Sonic. These business will have their customers harassed by panhandlers.
To the north is Owen elementary and a older lower/middle income residential area. Since bus routes have been changed there will be a lot more children walking in that area.
To the south there is White City whose property values will decrease, especially the closer they are to the “hotel” as well as Rogers High School.
If you extend the radius out a bit more to one and a half miles you will include the fairgrounds and TU (I wonder if they are involved, they have a history of driving down property values so they can snatch them up at bargain prices)
These residents have a right to be upset, especially since their councilor didn’t even bother to represent them (I can guarantee you that Roscoe would have fought for them).
One thing I wonder is, was the arena location picked by the same people?
That Jerry Giordano is gone, or soon will be, from KTUL, for his drunk driving hit and run incident. I dont watch the local news so I dont know first hand, but his picture is gone from their banner.

Ill present the evidence, you can make up your own mind.
1) Despite going to Indianapolis to learn how they made their arena & downtown work, our arena was put in an area where little to no private growth can happen.
2) Despite being cheaper to build-to-suit, our city Gov't moves into the "nicest" building downtown, thus removing it from the market as potential rental property.
3) Despite being the kind of development that everyone wants downtown,The TDA ends negotiations with Lofts @ 120, a multi-million dollar mixed use project.

T. Boone Pickens has been touting his energy plan lately but don’t think he’s doing it because he really cares about li’l ol’ planet earth, no he’s looking to jump on the green wagon to make a little green. He has seen how effective Al Gore has been in cashing in on the green scare and wants some of that money for himself. Why else would he support Gore being an Energy Czar if Obama is elected? Its kinda like the whole green initiative that MSNBC was pushing earlier this year, MSNBC is owned by GE, who stands to profit nicely if we buy into their scare mongering.
Here we have yet another example of private development being squashed by our local Gov't. And I though the whole purpose of all these projects downtown was to spur private development... at least thats what we were told anyway...

Ive been seeing this a lot lately coming from supporters of certain officials around town using arguments that basically boil down to "get over it" concerning past projects they have promoted or were responsible for…
We've been hearing those words thrown about for quite sometime now concerning downtown, the latest being that the new Driller Stadium could bring in 13 million dollars a year. Where do they come up with these numbers?
Just how much does Driller stadium bring in now? I realize they are referring to the "revitalization" of downtown (again), but the old stadium hasn't exactly driven up property values at 15th and Yale. Lowe's didn't move in because a ballpark was across the street.
There are few eating establishments in the area, so the belief must be that there isnt enough traffic going to the games to generate any revenue in those kind of endeavors.
Two weeks ago we celebrated our nation's 232 birthday, and it seems like our society is heading quicker and quicker down the drain. It was almost unnoticeable 50 years ago, but as we get closer to the drain itself we are spiraling out of control. There is no respect, no self-control, and no dignity.
I think a quote from 1931 is what started us on this journey. It was writer James Truslow Adams who coined the phrase "the American Dream," which basically states that a child's life should be fuller and better than that of the parent's. Unfortunately what happened was the parents took it upon themselves to try and make the children’s lives better without the children learning to appreciate what had been given to them, as it is human nature to take for granted what has been given too us, and appreciate what we have worked for.
So the greatest generation didn't want their children to experience what they had to endure living through the great depression, so they worked hard, and they gave of themselves more than ever before, literally "for the children". Unfortunately a large percentage of baby-boomers took if for granted, ignoring what had been taught them, despising the work ethic, authority and responsibility that comes along with being an adult... and then they had children... The baby-boomer generation listened to people like Dr. Spock on how to raise their children instead of the ways that had traditionally worked. They had God & spanking removed from the classrooms, they gave their children everything they asked for, while not correcting bad behavior... and then they had children...
and the spiral is getting smaller and the drain is getting closer.

With the approval of the funding for the ballpark downtown have we finally spent enough downtown to make it viable? Seriously, with the arena, the ball park, & cityhall move and the redoing of main street we have spent close to half a billion there.
There is a proposal on the table to add a tax to downtown businesses to the tune of 6 1/2 cents per square foot of land and building space. They claim it will collect around $3.3 million a year for 30 years.
This tax is to help fund a new downtown baseball stadium that will cost $65 million to build, $25 million of that coming from downtown business owners... where is the other $74 million going to go?
So the big news story of the day is that the Eagles, the 60 year old country rockers from the 70s, will be the BOk centers first act ::yawn::
What is being glossed over is that there is going to be a "Multi-Faith Celebration" a few days earlier in which 11 differnt faiths will bless our new arena... I hope the one true God will reduce the arena to rubble for this abomination.
On Bill O'Reillys Talking Points Memo Today, he was whining about the salaries of some of the oil producers CEOs, they averaged about 35 million a year each... Consider this, if each one of those executives were to not take a salary and use 100% of their wages to lower gas prices, gas would come down $0.001 a gallon.
Complaining about the oil companies profits isnt going to help lower prices, Bill (who makes 9 million a year himself), fixing the gov't will...

County Commisioner Randi Miller said you cant compare the situation of Big Splash with that of the evicted Bells amusement park...
and she's right!
1) Bell's paid their rent (and their water bills).
2) Bell's paid the highest rent on the fairgrounds.
3) Bell's maintained their rides, and made repairs when required.
4) The county commision wasn't in the back pocket Bell's.
5) Bell's has been evicted, while the owners of Big Splash has been given special treatment, a no bid contract for the midway during the fair, and first dibs on Bell's old location should they decide to set up their own amusement park.

now that gas is 4.00 a gallon

so, even in this time of record profits for oil companies, the government still gets 6x the amount of money out of a gallon of gas than the oil companies do.

This will be a big loss for those who are familier with that store, they have always treated me fairly and helped me build one heck of a gaming rig.
I figured with the closing of CompUSA up the street, they would have more than enough business to keep them busy, apprently I was wrong.

1) As usual, Tulsa (the city) will be paying to improve a suburb by building an Owasso classroom site.
2) TCC has some of the lowest tuition rates, They can raise the money on their own.
3) As Tulsa Chiggers pointed out, if Tulsa increased funding to TCC, that can open the door for OKC to lower state funding to TCC, thus putting them right back where they started.
4) And lastly, I'm against ANY permanent tax. There is no accountability if they fail to perform, we cant "fire" them or cut off funding.

The relocation of the Seattle Supersonics has a clause in the contract that the name of the team will include "Okalhoma City". If it isnt a state team, then why is the entire state subsidizing it?
Concerning the whole Texas FLDS raid last week, two random thoughts have been rolling around in my head.
Firstly, why is polygamy against the law, or at least actively prosecuted? The only difference between it and adultery is that in the case of polygamy the women know what is going on. I also respect this “version” of LDS more than the mainstream version, because it is still following what its founder, who claimed to get instructions from God, had originally declared. God doesn’t change, so for the LDS to declare that polygamy is wrong is saying either God changed his mind, or Joseph Smith lied. I still believe that the LDS church is WAY off base in their beliefs, but this particular sect stuck to their guns, which is better than some Christian denominations have done.
Secondly we have to deal with the alleged child abuse. And to be honest, this thought has been in my head for a while now, especially with the way “children” are behaving.
One hundred years ago, it was not uncommon to take on a 13 year-old as a wife. My wife’s grandmother was married at 13, In Jewish culture a bar mitzvah is held when he is 13 to celebrate the boy’s entering into adulthood. Recently, we as a society, have moved the goalposts, first to 16, then to 18, and now to 21, all under the mantra of “letting the kids be kids”.
Part of this has come about because we are no longer an agriculture based society and as such we don’t need the children in the field. We still see remnants of that era today with “summer break” from school. Unfortunately the overall effect has failed miserably. We have children growing up too fast (without actually maturing) because the parents don’t seem to care, all you have to do is see what the “girls” are wearing at the mall, and on the flip side of the coin we have grownups who never grew up, as witnessed by some of the more recent incidents of women and young boys. Do not misunderstand me, I’m not saying that we need to go back to marrying at age 13, children today are not mature enough, trained enough, or responsible enough to enter into such a situation. Unfortunatly they arent mature enough, trained enough or responsible enough to enter adulthood (by our definition) either thanks to some very poor parenting.
Back to the compound in Texas, we have “children” (this is in quotes, because we just don’t know at the moment) becoming pregnant, but at the same time we have a 16 year old Jamie Lynn Spears pregnant, the media celebrating it, and the 19 year old boyfriend is not in jail. Its a sick double standard, no wonder we have so much teen pregnacy outside the walls of cultist compounds.

But only as far as the river. QT is going to build what looks to be a nice addition to river parks, right where a bridge to the west bank of Tulsa should be going. The opportunities for redevelopment and recreation are almost endless on the west side, but apparently that would cut into the good 'ol boys plan. Chris Medlock had to fight tooth and nail to get the Tulsa Hills development to go in, so it looks like that will be our only bone.
When will these elitists admit that there is more to Tulsa than Utica Square and that you need all of Tulsa to thrive for the city to succeed?
North Tulsa, East Tulsa and West Tulsa are tired of being treated like red-headed step-children. We are tired of paying for your toys that do nothing to improve the overall livability of Tulsa.
Last year QuikTrip changed their gasoline over to a 10% ethanol blend. In one story it was stated that "Ethanol added to gasoline brings down the cost of filling up." Now, last time I checked QT isn't any cheaper than most other gas stations, at least not on the SW side of town.
Adding insult to injury there is now grumblings of a 2-10% reduction in people MPG from people who use the ethanol blend, (not to mention the crud the fuel adds to your fuel system which can causing possible mechanical failure).
So apparently not only is QT pocketing the savings, drivers have to go back more often to refuel.
I used to be a die-hard QT user, I rarely step foot in the place now.
some want to say it started with Rock and Roll… the moral decline of the world. But looking through history, there have always been things that "caused" moral decline, for example in the 20s and 30s it was jazz and swing dancing and alcohol. But there is so much more to the story than that. After Rock became more mainstream, the sights were set to other things, in the 80s it was Dungeons and Dragons and that it "caused" suicides, in the 90s it was cartoons and horror movies "causing" violence, and now in the 2000s its violence in video games and that it is the "cause" of violence.
These items in and of themselves are not the "cause" of anything.
The "cause" is not the games, the music, or the gadgets; the problem is "parents" have become so detached from their children they (the children) have no understanding of right and wrong anymore. The parents look for things to blame for their failings (kind of like Christians blaming politicians for abortions). Parents give their kids "stuff" to shut them up for a while. When I was growing up it was rare to find a kid with a separate phone in his room. Most houses had the phone and television in a central location, and if the children received any outside stimulus the parents were nearby to monitor the situation. Now they have cell phones, TVs, and internet access in their rooms, parents don't have a clue who their kids are talking to, what they are listening to or what they are watching. Kids want to learn and since their parents don't interact with their kids they learn their behavior from others.
You my not like the guy, but Marilyn Manson said it best "The message that I'm sending out to them is raise your kids better or I'll be raising them for you."

And lastly the Gov’t encouraging the population as a whole to spend and spend and spend.
Both the Southern Baptists and the Catholic Church were both reported on today that they will bow down at the alter of "Climate Change" one saying that they have a "biblical duty to stop global warming" and the other publishing a list of the new 7 deadly sins
As I have stated before, we should be good stewards of what God has given us, but to buy into the global warming cult that's only purpose is to shove socialism down everyone's throat is not Christian, its Idolatry.

Firstly, I think SCOTUS needs to clarify, whether the offspring of someone who is in the country illegally or not is a US citizen. It's interesting that the second part of section 1 states that the person born and "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is a citizen. That means in my not so legally trained mind that you must subject yourself to the US's laws.
Secondly, even if SCOTUS rules that they are citizens, that doesn’t automatically grant the parent(s) legal rights here. Send them all home, new US citizen and family and when they are old enough, they can come back to this country.
Global warming advocates are still pushing 1998 as the warmest year on record, even after it was proven that a Y2K glitch was found that made the 1998 record erroneous.
"World warming despite cool Pacific and Baghdad snow" reads the headline on Friday, and the first paragraph states inaccurately that "Climate change is still nudging up temperatures in the long term even though the warmest year was back in 1998 and 2008 has begun with unusual weather such as a cool Pacific and Baghdad's first snow in memory, experts said."
If they cant get the small facts right, why should we believe them with any of their other so-called facts?

Today it was reported that Richard Roberts told reporters that "God" told him to resign, less than a few weeks after "God" told him to deny the allegations... why would "God" have him deny the allegations in the first place, only to have him step down?
I fully believe that the apple does not fall far from the tree as these same antics were used by Oral, but in a more flamboyant way when he said "God" told him he would be "taken home" if the money for the City of Faith wasn't raised. As we all know the City of Faith closed two years later and is now the Cityplex Towers.
I think God is a better "planner" than that.
The US and its craving for cheap Chinese imports and its "gotta have it now" mentality have finally come full circle.
The first half of this circle is cheap Chinese imports. American companies, in an effort to maximize their profits have turned a large chunk of our manufacturing base over to the Chinese, which in turn finances the Chinese Gov't (they are COMMUNIST after all) we have seen their military grow, and we have seen them side with the likes of Iran. We have funded China's growth.
On the other side of the circle is the mortgage and credit crisis we are now experiencing in America. Instead of purchasing a house they could afford, some turned to ARM loans, and now that is causing mass foreclosures and a serious credit crisis. Which in turn is devaluing our dollar and causing turmoil in the Stock Market.
So what happens when you put both sides of the circle together? China can come in and acquire greater stakes in our financial markets with money they got from us in the first place!

This morning I was rolling westbound down I-44 and came upon some road construction at Peoria and Harvard. There is one small problem with this story however... not only were they doing guardrail work, they were stripping the top layer of asphault off of the bridges and laying down a fresh layer... whats the point? Arent they going to be ripping those bridges out in a short while to widen I-44?
Now while I would like to see development on the river, but not at the expense of the taxpayer, one really has to ask themselves, will it really make Tulsa that much more attractive to outsiders looking to relocate?
The river development has been compared to San Antonio and Oklahoma City, and a previous mayor wanted us to be more like Indianapolis. However, no matter where you look, Tulsa already outranks all 3 cities in all the "most livable" indexes, sometimes even showing up in the top 10, add to that we are ranked in the top 10 for jobs and for affordable housing.
So is it because of bad management, lack of focus, or being afraid of change that our city leaders and chamber of commerce dont use these stats to draw in more high paying jobs, which in turn will being in the Yuppies... errr... the young professionals that they claim they want to come.
Here's the plan: Fix our streets, and make them safe, play up and promote our strengths and our history, and the rest will take care of itself!
Lastly, I dare say that since the Kaiser group pulled the money off of the table, it appears they really werent interested in bettering Tulsa at all... if they did they wouldn't have offered it up as a bribe. Im going to guess Kaiser and company are going to argue that Tulsa doesnt care enough about the river. The irony is that if the vote had been a city tax only, it would have passed.
Using the same logic that the county and city did concerning the River Vote, that is, the people showed a willingness to increase their taxes another 4/10th of a cent because of the Boeing part of the 2025 vote. Well Im going to apply the same logic to George Kaiser and crew. By offering up 117 million dollars, they showed a willingness to spend that money, so here's their chance!
Take the money from the 177 million dollar "gift" and use it on these two parts of the project, allowing the Branson Landing people to come in and develop the west bank.
52.4 million - west bank land acquisition
15.45 million -zink damn modifications (or repairs)
After that he can take part of the remainder and give North Tulsa the 5 million bribe that they offered up.
Com'on George, think of all the jobs your "gift" would bring in... after all it's for the Children!
I would like to thank all those that tirelessly fought off the Tax Dragons. You have kept our city safe for the time being.
Specifically I would like to thanks Michael Bates for his in-depth, thoughtful, and fact filled commentary that made the Tax Dragons squirm. I also want to thank councilors Jack Henderson, Roscoe Turner & John Eagleton, State Senator Randy Brogdon, Tulsa County Assessor Ken Yazel, and Broken Arrow Mayor Wade McCaleb for not bowing to the county and standing up and speaking up FOR their constituents.
The Tax Dragons didn’t like the light of truth shown on them so they tried to deflect it with cries of "It's for the children". Tulsans saw through the deception and did the right thing.

So now it comes down to the wire, and I am giving my top 10 reasons for voting NO tomorrow.
1) Its about priorities, fix the roads, keep us safe and educate our kids. Thats what you are being paid to do!
2) Whats the rush? we wont even get an approval to do the project for another couple of years. all the impact studies are not even complete.
3) Deliberately vague ballot. according to the wording, they can use the money on the river and/or something else.
4) Mismanagement at the county level. getting rid of Bell's who contributed real income to the county, and replacing it with a parking lot (and they said attendance/revenue was down, but not because of Bells being absent... yeah... right)
5) On an equally poorly worded ballot we already voted to have the river done in vision 2025.
6) the same person responsible for the design of "the Channels" is in charge of this design.
7) The Branson Landing people were going to come before any mention of this tax
8) I dont like conditional gifts...
9) County gov't has no business collecting sales tax. As the cities grow, they have less to take care of, they shouldnt be growing!
10) false advertising, if its such a great deal you dont have to lie about it... 10,000 jobs my a.... nose

Im not going to get into the lawsuit aspect against ORU concerning the three former professors and their allegations concerning the failed Randi Miller Mayoral run.
What did shock me was, while reading over the complaint to the courts, the excesses that the Robert's family indulged in, allegedly on the university's dime. One example is their home being remodeled 11 times in the last 14 years, all of these allegations start on page 7.
Men of God, and their families, are not supposed to live high-on-the-hawg, Im not saying that they shouldnt be taken care of or even live comfortably, but God gave them that money, and in return there should be more works glorifying God... a $39,000 clothing bill at Chicos is not being a good steward of God's money!

Our leadership keeps touting that we need to get "young professionals" to come to town, and apparently the only way to do so is to entertain them (parks, arenas, river development, etc). If that is the kind of people we have coming in, what happens when they get bored? Im quite sure they will move on to the next "hot spot".
What Tulsa needs is for families to move to here, people who want to be in a nice mid-sized city where they can raise their children, but those people wont show up until we get our priorities straightened out and fix our roads, fix our education system and get more police on the streets.

Firstly... The people of the North Side, West Side, East Side, and South side dont care about "entertainment options", especially when the people pushing these "entertainment options" are the same people that evicted BELLS, a real entertainment option!
Secondly... there is nothing in this plan that will increse the tax base, its nothing but parks and "gathering areas". All it will do is drain the people's pockets to pay for it.
We give and give and give, and all they do is waste, waste, WASTE!
The city/county gov't is no better than the begger on the side of the (pothole infested) road. Even though their sign says they are homeless needing some money for food, you know that giving them any money will be immediatly wasted on booze and/or drugs.
So why are you even considering giving these people more of your hard earned money? Its time to "help" the city by just saying NO. If you want better streets, just say NO to the River Tax, we already had some people interested in developing it WITHOUT raising OUR taxes.

On Monday we emailed jokes
the Owner of Amrican AutoMart in Tulsa has put a bounty of $5 on the No River Tax signs. Since I am in the market for a new or used car, I made note of the name of the dealership so I could avoid it. But after a bit of research I found out that it is a "tote the note" dealership I woulnt have gone the to purchase a car anyway.
Why cant downtown just be a "central" business district? Why does it have to have entertainment at all (especially entertainment paid for by tax $$$, the gov't has no business being in the entertainment business)? part of downtown's problem is that it is not centrally located, Tulsa is mostly south of downtown, and that is where the money is.
The local gov’t needs to let growth happen naturally, like in Brookside and Cherry Street, even in the Brady Village. When gov’t gets involved beyond basic infrastructure, the development fails (main mall is a great example as was the Albertson’s on North Lewis... the BOK arena will follow suite soon enough). The private sector is willing to do the work if the oligarchic families of the city would just get out of the way. The our way or the highway mentality of these families and their bought-and-paid-for city leaders have done nothing but hurt the city of Tulsa, while allowing the suburbs to grow at an expediential rate. Very soon, there will be no reason to come into the city of Tulsa, because the suburbs will have everything they need in their own community.
If the city was serious about development downtown, they would offer up tax incentives to businesses to
locate there, or even offer up a sales-tax free zone inside the IDL.
That's the kind of carrot that businesses want, not an albatross of an
arena in the wrong place.
It’s time for the city leaders to get out of the way and let developers like Branson Landing to come in and develop the city in the right way!
Yeah, Im late to the Party... I finally saw the "I Am... Find me in Tulsa" signs on my way beck from Indianapolis this morning.
Thanks to a post by Dave and some No River Tax signs I started rethinking my stance on the river again.
The facts are:
The river is unreliable, it can be nothing but sand bars one week and full the next. low water damns may fix that issue.
The river is shallow, only major dam/levy work will change that fact.
The river is on a bed of sand, which causes problems with low water dams & causes the water to look muddy most of the time.
There are two refineries and a sewer treatment plant on the river, all north of 61st. this will not change.
The west bank of the river is mostly industrial.
The river has a beautiful park that runs the length of it from downtown south, a fact that was commented on by a person complaining about the hot August weather and the PGA last week. "The Arkansas River runs through here, and there's a beautiful park that parallels it, following the contours of the river. People jog and ride bicycles through the park, past beautiful sculptures here and there."
With those facts in place, the best places for development are north of the 21st St. bridge on the west bank & south of 61st
I’m beginning to thing that outside of the Branson Landing people, we (being the taxpayers) should leave the river alone and make the roads safe to drive on. We need to quit following other people and play up what makes Tulsa unique... and an undeveloped river definitally makes us unique after all it hasnt been developed in 100+ years.

Back before Vision 2025, former mayor LaFortune, met with the mayor of Indianapolis and discussed its success, after that meeting, our mayor said he wanted Downtown Tulsa to resemble Indianapolis' downtown. I have been in downtown Indianapolis, in fact I will be there again in a bit over a week. But instead of emulating Indy, we go our own direction, building an arena we don’t need and tearing down buildings that could have been rehabilitated for parking lots and AC units. Indy’s downtown is dense with very little surface parking, but there are plenty of places to park your car
The came along Vision 2025, which they claim was modeled after the MAPS project in OKC, again another transformation to copy someone else, then completely ignoring what makes Bricktown and MAPS successful.
Lastly we have Branson Landing, the people of Tulsa want river development, but after having to pay for all the blunders our so-called "leaders” have made since the Susan Savage administration, we are running short of patience and money. A Tulsa Landing can be done, but like all the previous other fiascos, if our oligarchic gov’t cant have their way, it wont happen.

Last week there was a report that anti-smoking ads actually had the opposite effect on kids and they started smoking anyway. As some of you may not be aware, these ads are produced by cigarette companies as part of the federal tobacco settlement. These companies made commercials that would have the least impact, and even swayed kids in the opposite direction.
As I thought about this, I remembered a similar study a few months ago showed that abstinence only education had little to no effect, is that because the curriculum was designed in such a way to promote the rebellious spirit found in children? Or are people that are teaching abstinence only not have the heart to teach it, thus forcing it will fail.
Gas is hovering at record levels, and has been for a couple of years. Some of that has to do with speculators on Wall Street, some of it has to do with tension in the Middle East (If GWB was only in Iraq for the oil, wouldnt it have mode more sense to work out a deal with Saddam?), some of it has to do with natural disasters like Katrina, and lastly some of it it has to do with faulty refineries having to shut down or reduce capacity.
The last one is preventable, yet the oil companies understand "Supply and demand" and by not keeping the refineries up and running the supply tightens up, and with that, the prices go up and oil companies reap record profits. Why repair the refineries when you make more money with them being broken?
Yesterday, as predicted, it was announced that the county is going to go after the 4/10th of a cent that was "left on the table" since Boeing didn’t come to town. I am torn on this.
During the run up to Vision 2025, the city said they wanted River development and instead we were offered a billion dollar tax to pay for an Arena that we didn’t need and will take more money out of the general fund, pocket parks, pools, community centers and a hodge podge of other pet projects that would have a zero effect on improving the chances of Tulsa’s survival.
River development will increase the tax base and will increase the livability factor of the city. So what are we to do? Do we reward those that pulled the wool over the eyes of the city of Tulsa and give them money when they have proven over and over again that they refuse to be good stewards of OUR money? We have been propping up Broken Arrow, Jenks, and Owasso while our streets fall apart & our crime rises. We can’t have a "strong core" as our so called city leaders want, if their ineptness drives everyone to the suburbs. So do we give them the money or not.
The river has waited this long, I say we wait to the current batch of "representatives" are no longer in office before we start work on the river.
Today in the latest National Intelligence Estimate document, which is 3 years of work from the nations 16 intelligence agencies say that Islamic terrorist groups are planning high-impact, high-casualty terrorist attacks on US soil within the next three years.
So how are they getting here?
The FBI is investigating an alleged smuggling ring in New Mexico that is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico. Not like this is really news, this is the exact reason that some have been clamoring for some sort of border protection, its not just migrant workers coming over our borders!
In the recent Tulsa Civic Center move I made a comment about how it was a perfect example of style over substance. and upon further thought that is also the state of the individual, the city, the state the union and the church.
Now I understand the world view of Style over Substance. Style is easy, it make you feel good, it doesnt require (as much) work and it is self-centered. It's like that first date, you are to busy trying to make yourself look good that you overlook the serious flaws with the person you are with. The problem with Style over Substance is you never stop trying to make yourself look good, and never get to the core of the problem.
I said the City Hall move was a perfect example, so let me explain. The new building is pretty (well some think it is anyway), in fact they say its one of the nicest buildings downtown. Councilor Carter said that this will improve our "image", but as Michael Bates pointed out fixing our roads and adding cops would do more to really improve our image. One view is Style, its easy, its ego stroking, the other is Substance, it's hard, and not glamorous. One is a window dressing that will have zero impact beyond the headlines, the other will have a long term positive impact and will affect how people look at our city.
Last night, Mayor Kathy got her way once again. she has saddled Tulsa with a 76 million dollar debt that we cant afford, when we are already in a situation where we cant afford to put enough cops on our unlit, unsafe, pothole ridden streets.
Its a perfect example of Style over Substance.
I can understand the democrats voting the way they did, party unity and all, but Im sorry, I will not be supporting any republican that voted for this move... not that they have been acting much like republicans anyway.

According to a recent report, Oklahoma ranked 34th in the nation for personal income growth. One person attributes that to a decline in farming, to which I call BS! Farmers are subsidized by the federal gov't they get their money one way or another (ranking 18th out of 50). No, the loss in income is from the loss of skilled workers either leaving the state, or losing their jobs and having to settle for call centers to make ends meet.

In a rare appearance on the hill today President Bush said, concerning illegal immigration, that the Status quo is unacceptable and on that statement I can agree. however the status quo he wants fixed and the status quo that the American people want fixed seem to be miles apart. here are the status quo items that I think need to be fixed.
1) Secure the Border. We cannot have serious terrorist protection if they can just sneak in over our borders. And we wont stop more illegals from coming over without some sort of security
2) Enforce the Law. If this had been done since 1986 when the last amnesty program happened, we wouldnt be where we are today. There needs to be some sort of punishment meeted out to those who provide a sactuary status to illegals (Im looking at you Mayor Taylor!)
3) Quit providing Gov't handouts. We have millions of our own people who need assistance, why should they be forced to the back of the line? To me its like the whole minimum wage hike, people dont understand that not only are those who are working their butts off to make ends meet will get the "raise" but so will the lazy who are just their for a paycheck so they can go out and buy beer!
4) Go after employers who knowingly hire illegals. in combination with #3 if the money flow is turned off, there will be no incentive to come here, we wont have to round them up, they will go back on their own!
5) Make it easier to come to this country legally. There are some hard working Hispanics out there that really do want to become American citizens. Find them & work with them, they will be a valuable assett to our country

Looking at a map Lost city is about 4 miles from Hulbert, 6 miles from Gideon, & 11 miles from Tahlequah...

a school district with a total of 68 students with $138,500 in administration costs.

Late last night, just before going to bed (12:30AM...ish) I decided to catch up on all the news, hitting all of my online news sources. There is a poll on KTUL's site that asks: "Would you trust electronic voting machines if they were used in Oklahoma?". Not trusting electronic voting boths, because of not having a paper trail, the possibility of hacking, outright fraud, and believing that Oklahoma actually does have one of the best voting booth hardware/system out there I voted "no". The results were something like 55% For, 45% against with around 3500 votes. I'm not positive of the numbers, but it was in that ball park with about 10% seperating the "Yes" & "No" votes.
This morning I had to get up early to take care of some business
(havent dont it yet, they dont open for another 45 minutes), and just
out of curiosity I looked back at the results. between 12:30 AM and
6:30 AM the number of votes ballooned to 11,528 Votes, 81% which were for electronic voting.
Update: 9:53AM the total number of votes is up to 31352 votes!

happening at the schools and get involved, if you are outraged that the
schools have removed discipline and activities for the kids stand up to
the busy-bodys, its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, and good
parents have been way to quiet on matters like this.

I've said it before, Ill say it again, raising minimum wage benefits the working poor for a very short time, and it hurts the lower middle class for a long time.

After coming back from a trip to western
Kansas, yesterday, I slipped a CD into the trucks player, after a few
songs had passed, Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" began playing.
This song was played extensively over the radio in the mid 70s, but its
apparent very few people actually listened to the lyrics. Since that time, we've gone
from parents being so wrapped up in their careers that they have no
time for their kids to parents being so wrapped up in their careers
that they give their children anything they want as a "cheap"
alternative. Add to that they seem to enroll them in every sort of
activity that they can imagine, so the parents can sit on the sidelines
instead of spending some real time with them. Unfortunately for the
parents that do the right thing they are blasted by the TV for various toys
and gizmos or worse yet other parents ridicule them for not getting
their child more "involved".
I was blasted by a parent because I pointed out that a lot of parents
aren't doing their job, one thing I pointed out the extremely low
turnout at school board elections, others include not asking their
child questions and the obvious lack of discipline being administered.
The people I know are good parents, but then again maybe thats just the
crowd I run around with.

Yesterday it was revealed that Marriott lost client information
pertaining to its time-share customers, including social security and
credit card information. This revelation immediately made me remember a
letter I received from ABN-AMRO
last month concerning lost data possibly concerning my mortgage,
luckily that tape has been recovered. We as consumers are told we need
to protect our identity, but what happens when it is beyond our control?
On the home front, one should be extremely careful about the
information you set by the curbside the night before trash pickup.
Anything with any account or personal information should be shredded,
this includes firm credit and insurance offers that come in the mail
based off of your credit rating. It would be best to place your name on
the do not send list by calling 1-888-5-OPT-OUT. This menu driven call
will remove you from the list and within a few month you will no longer
receive offers for credit or insurance if the companies are using the
big 4 credit rating companies.

The most obvious thing concerning tonight's city council meeting was that unannounced mayoral candidate Bill Christiansen was
absent from the meeting, the general consensus from those that I talked to was he missed it so he
wouldnt have to vote on a controversial issue that his opponents could
use against him... dont worry Bill, they have more than enough
ammunition with out you having to hand them the gun.
After a lively debate over allowing
another section of city
employees to collective bargain (and as an IS guy I noticed that the
techies once again get excluded, not that I was for unionizing), the council got to the meat of the
council meeting, charter changes.
Council district 2 candidate Rick Westcott spoke of his approval of the proposed charter changes that are to go to the people for a vote, however
during discussion, Baker and the rest of the cockroaches
decided that
again it would be to cumbersome to compare signatures to signatures as
proposed, they wanted to compare signatures to names instead, so the motion failed. The one thing that turned Tulsa into
a
national laughingstock, again, goes unresolved, and again, the
cockroaches are afraid that the people will make their voices heard,
well guess what, next year their voices will be heard, loud and clear,
and Baker, Neal, Sullivan, Martinson, Christiansen and their ilk will
be
on the outside looking in, if the people of Tulsa throw off their
blinders...
One day I would like to wake up in the morning and not think: "Who is the city going to take advantage of today?"
8 years ago I became a first time homeowner, and less than 4 months
later we become embroiled with the airport over aircraft noise and the
(literal) damage it was doing to our neighborhood. The more I dug, the
more dirt I found, and what I found was that this city is corrupt to
its very core and the majority of people do not see it, they just
blindly follow whichever banner they feel like following, I'm not sure
if its apathy or if they like being spoon fed by the establishment when
it comes to the mundane issues that affect our town.
Its only when one becomes involved does the truth begin to unfold, and the truth will set you and the city free.
About a year or so ago I began reading batesline.com, which then led me to meeciteewurkor and I became inspired I wanted to do something besides fight my own battles, I wanted to help expose the corruption in the city that I love. You see, I really do love Tulsa, I was born here and it pains me to see our past destroyed for no benefit other than the short-sightedness of a few in power. I want Tulsa to have good streets, schools, & protection, things that encourage people to come in and start families & businesses... somehow the city got off track. The city leadership, guided by the midtownie's and a "my-way-or-the-highway" attitude, have cost Tulsa a lot in the way of outside investment.
So I say its time to get involved if you arent already, start now
before you find yourself in the same predicament as Peggy Jones, the
folks on south Yale with the bridge, those at 71st & Harvard, those
on Brookside, those by the airport and those along I-44. stand up now,
take the city back.

opening up in Owasso, and now this shopping mecca going up in Broken
Arrow (thanks to our "regional" mayor in an effort to get Vision 2025
passed), is there any reason to go to Tulsa to shop anymore?
Just a wild hunch, since Sapulpa annexed Town West, I would not be suprised if Sapulpa does something similer right on our southwestern doorstep.

pencil in hand writing the story, later proved to be false.
October 1, 2005 - OU suicide bomber,
Boren says that the incident was nothing more than a suicidal kid,
national press leaves it alone, even though there is more than enough
evidence to point in the direction that it was an actual terrorist
action. (and if it was just an isolated incident why the heightened security?)
What is the difference? Was it because one was a threat and not an
action? Was it because one was in a major city and thus a "likely
target" and the other in the middle of the country? Was it because in
one the local gov't said there was something there and the other they
said it was nothing, so the press took them at their word?
Before you go too much farther... did you know that in the aftermath of
Katrina, the FBI/Military caught two terrorists in New Orleans?

Was the reaction to Katrina just a dress
rehersal to the possible catastophic event that might be just around
the corner? Instead of affecting 4 states a major earthquake on the New Madrid fault line will have an impact on 24 states with a 7 suffering a direct hit, so to speak.

inhabitants of those states? What about the gov't? What kind of

Tomorrow morning I’m taking off to
Indianapolis via Kansas City (to pick up some friends). Again, I will
get to see the city/downtown that Tulsa wanted to model itself after,
and failed miserably.
Indy has a thriving downtown, but it also has a developed canal area
(the development of our river seems to be an afterthought). It has an
NFL franchise (something we will NEVER see), a beautiful shopping mall
(we had one, it was turned into a cube farm), dense building population
(you don’t see a parking lot every other block), and other tourist
items… none of which Tulsa’s downtown has.
So anyway... I wont be posting ‘til Monday or Tuesday, if you have

year old grandson, where's HER responsibility? Truth is, parents don't pay
attention to their kids any more, and they are looking for something to
blame besides their own laziness, children left in car seats, children
left unattended getting attacked by dogs, violence blamed on video
games, obesity, I could go on and on...
whats the solution, how about spending
some REAL quality time with your kids, dont just buy them what is
popular (games, food, movies, etc), pay attention to their
surroundings (Pit Bull attack in Moore?), pay attention to what they
are doing (Running around in stagnant water at Mohawk park?), and quit
trying to
pin the blame on something other than your own lack of parenting.

Going Eastbound on I-44 past Memorial is a
billbord for the Heartland Flyer, touting its destination points... OKC
to Ft Worth. Just how many customers do they expect from Tulsa to drive
2 hours to OKC so they can take the Train to Ft Worth? Are there some
hidden advantages I'm missing? Im not saying some adventure minded
people wouldnt enjoy the train ride, but is it worth the cost for the
advertising? (The cost of billboard advertising ranges from about $700
to $2,500 a month.)

Eleanor Cook and Ray Hultman, both jurors
on the Michael Jackson trial, have changed their tune. They are now
saying that Jackson was guilty of the charges brought before the court.
Why should we believe them now? Why didn't they come to this
realization earlier? Or did they have this revelation after they both
decided to cash in and write books on the ordeal?
Cook even had the gall to say, "They (the other jurors) can be as angry as they want to.
They ought to be ashamed. They're the ones that let a pedophile go."
I'm sorry, did I miss something? Did you have duct tape placed over
your mouth? Didn't you have a vote on the jury?
The only one with any shred of credibility is Hultman, who stated
immediately after the trial, "I feel that Michael Jackson probably has
molested boys"

straight days and not do something more than just watch television and
eat popcorn. I mean, that doesn't make sense to me."

The NCAA has banned the use of Native American mascots by sports teams during pot season tourneys… Isn’t there some sort of double standard here? What about all the “white guy” mascots? If we do this lets go all the way, goodbye Sooners, goodbye Cowboys, goodbye Fighting Irish… we need to ban all mascots that portray any kind of human endeavor and just stick with cute fuzzy animals from this point forward… But then again, that may upset the animal rights activists…
But seriously, I don’t see what the problem is, maybe I have a thicker skin than most, I don’t see the “abuse”… the real Florida Seminoles signed a resolution supporting the FSU Seminoles. Jim Shore, the Florida’s Seminole tribe's general counsel, is in support of FSU and said he does not have a problem with any Indian-related mascot, including the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Chiefs and even Redskins. "We have bigger things on our agenda, like the health, education and housing of our own tribal members'' .
This is nothing more than a feel-good measure so a very small group of liberal whiners can feel good about themselves, they like the spotlight this gives them and because of the media coverage, they make their cause seem bigger than it really is... most schools claim to have never received complaints concerning their mascots…
So what’s next? banning football
itself? because its too brutal and teaches children violence... we need
to pay more attention to the arts instead... Think of the children!!!

I was honored to be a guest on KFAQ to discuss various local issues. I was joined by Michael Bates of batesline.com, Steven Roemerman of Roemerman on Record, and David Schuttler (fellow airport watcher) of Our Tulsa World.
We apparently aren't as "outspoken" as Michael Bates, and DelGiorno
gave Gwen a little good natured ribbing concerning our lack of energy
(later in the broadcast he mentioned wanting us to come over in the
evening to help put him to sleep). So I'd like to give Mike a little
friendly advice, ask some direct questions, especially when dealing
with people who have little to no experience in your medium, personally
I'm of the mindset of don't speak until spoken to, I don't like to cut
into a conversation (or in Mike's case a monologue :D)
Still, I want to thank Mike, Gwen & everyone else at KFAQ for
having us on, and to thank my fellow bloggers, together we WILL take
Tulsa back! Maybe we can do it again someday (but I doubt it)

The NRA announced today that they are going to boycott ConocoPhillips because of challenge filed against Oklahoma concerning the state's new law protecting employees from termination it they had brought firearms on company property, inside their locked cars
I am a proud NRA member, but the minute the gov’t starts telling a private property owner what they can and cant do with their own property (within reason, specifically concerning zoning), my feathers start to get a little ruffled. A good example of this is the gov’t forcing resuraunts to go “smoke free”... and I dont even smoke!
The only beef I have is the apparent lack of communication concerning the new corporate policy. Here is the story… in 2002 some workers for Weyerhauser brought their guns to work, left them in their locked cars and the company fired them over it. The employees said they were not informed of this change and that’s the part I disagree with, it is difficult to not break corporate policy if you are not informed of changes.
So sorry Wayne, I cant support your boycott, but then again I don’t buy my gas at Phillips 66 anyway...

Why is it that the
“people’s” vision took a back seat to the good ol’ boy network’s money making
schemes? We said develop the river, they forced a tax to develop downtown and an worthless arena at

The river is one of our most prized natural
resources and we have squandered it year after year, and we let opportunity
after opportunity to slip through our fingers, like the Jenks Aquarium &
Bass Pro Shop, and now that they are talking about developing the river, just
where are they going to get the funds? After the Vision 2025 fiasco how can
they possibly be trusted with more of our money?
KTUL has a story about how, somehow, a national source says that “Tulsa is a must-see tourist attraction”. What even worse is Suzanne Stewart’s cheerleading, its sad, it like watching the cheerleaders for your team trying to get the crowd going when they are down 4 touchdowns, the opponent has the ball, your starting quarterback has a broken leg, and there is only 5 minutes left in the game… lets dissect her comments, shall we? <!--[endif]-->
“There's enough of Tulsa to stretch over seven days” Does that include road trips to KC & Dallas?
“Tulsa is one the top three sites for art deco architecture, celebrated year in and year out” Though this may be true, we are bulldozing buildings downtown at an alarming rate, and I’m sorry, going to go look at art deco buildings is not what most people consider to be a vacation destination spot.
“And, there's the history at museums like the Gilcrease, where you can see the lost city, The Machu Picchu.” – um… that exhibit leave next month I believe, then what? I will agree, we have some top notch museums in this city, the Philbrook, & Gilcrease, but again, those are not things that are considered destination spots, I don’t go to KC to go see the Truman museum exclusively, we go there for the Plaza, the depot, the Arabia, the food, the Chiefs, the zoo, the historical spots, and then if we have time, we will squeeze in the museum.
“there's the Greenwood District, full of history, the Black Wall Street, rebounding from the destruction of the 1921 race riot” visitors will be in and out of the greenwood district in one hour, yes its historical, but it also covers about 2 blocks, its still not a destination point and it also has a very limited audience
“Tulsa has the largest stretch of Route 66 in the country.” Which we have summarily been destroying and allowing to decay for the last 30 years, thanks to the likes of Chris Nichols Autohaus. Yeah the road is still there, but its flooded with used car lots and hookers.
Add all these together and you have a bunch of niche attractions that will only appeal to a very small group of people.
If people want to go to an amusement park, they will go to Worlds of fun in KC, Six Flags in Dallas or even Frontier city in OKC… not Bells.
If they want shopping they will go to KC or Dallas, not Tulsa.
If they want sports... sorry Talons, Oilers & Drillers...
How can we change that? Is it “possible” to change that? It is but it will require some real effort by the people in charge. Pocket parks, Jazz hall of fame (Tulsa is known for its jazz?), a bridge to Bixby & the arena are not the answer. Spurring economic growth is. Building up our strengths is...
Someone with some initiative (and some cash of course) could look at turning the Rose Bowl into a route 66 museum, which will attract historians and car nuts.
Spur economic growth on 66 by issuing tax credits to those who will open businesses other than used car lots on 11th street.
Stop the destruction! Stop TU from tearing down Starship records & tapes & nationally know Metro Diner. Stop tearing buildings down in the downtown area (Tulsa World alone is responsible for 2 one to make room for more parking, Trinity Episcopal Church is tearing down a 1920s parking garage for... parking) let quit destroying our history… especially if that is what we are trying to market.
Went to the local Home Depot to pick up some Loppers (not the Cindi
variety either) and proudly spent $2.00 more for the pair made in the
USA as opposed to those made over seas.
As a nation we need to
look at ourselves as a reason people are losing their jobs and for our
immigration problems. goods are being produced overseas that used to be
produced in the USA and in Mexico/Central America. by exporting these
jobs overseas, not only do US citizens lose their jobs, those south of
our border lose theirs as well, causing them to migrate looking for
work.
This realization came to me when we went on our cruise to
Mexico & Belize. on the Carnival ship they sold shirts the vast
majority were made in China, shouldnt they at least be supporting the
counties they visit? Dont these large companies realize if you export
all the jobs over seas then nobody in the USA will be able to purchase
their goods for a lack of a job?
so next time you purchase
somethign look to see where it is made, and see if there are american
(North, central & south) alternatives available, it will be better
for us & our neighbor south of the border in the long run
