Did they really just go there?

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency." - Marc Ambinder

"Vice Presidents must assume the reins should the President become ill or deceased. This is a very real possibility, given McCain's age, cancer and other physical problems. How dare McCain put someone into the biggest most important job in the world who is mere months out of running a tiny village in an isolated part of the country?" - Diane Francis

Lets look at it this way concerning "experience & credentials", If McCain is elected president, Palin has a possibility of becoming President. Obama, on the otherhand, if elected, is guaranteed to become president.

Oh, the Irony!

While the Republicans and democrats were doing everything in their power to keep the likes of Bob Barr off of the Oklahoma General election ballot, they forgot about the Aug 26th deadline to get their presidential candidates registered on the statewide Texas ballot. So as it stands right now, the only presidential candidate on the Texas presidential ballot is Bob Barr.

Saying goodbye to my little friend

stoneyA little over ten years ago a literal handful of energy came into our lives. We didn’t know what breed he was when we picked him out, and neither did the person working the adoption counter at the PetsMart. After a few weeks he began to develop distinctive physical traits that made us realize that he was a pit bull terrier. At that point we were concerned, as we had bought into the hype that they were vicious man-eaters.

At that time the anti pit-bull sentiment was just beginning to build, but in raising our pit bull we didn’t see any of the behaviors that were giving them the bad name. We began to do more research, and time and time again we found that most of the claims were unfounded. Usually it was a neglectful parent that was responsible for the attacks we read about, and even then in the grand scheme of things those attack were so few and far in between an individual would have a better chance of being killed in a car wreck, than killed by any kind of dog.

When “representative” Wesslehoft started on his crusade against the pit bull, spreading misinformation, I decided it was time to fight back. I was not going to allow my pet to be held responsible for bad owners, or for bad parenting. I put up a petition, and Stoney became a local celebrity of sorts. He was on News Channel 8, Fox 23, Urban Tulsa and the Tulsa World, and each time he was a perfect gentleman. I believe he changed a lot of opinions about the true nature of the Breed.

Unfortunately, Stoney lost the only fight he was ever in, bone cancer.

I will miss you little buddy, and even though I no longer have a “dog in this fight” I will continue to fight on for you, for those pit bulls that have done no harm, which are raised in loving homes with responsible owners.

Will fear be the final step...

...to public approval of chipping people from the mark of the beast?

For some Mexicans it is...

Though this is just a GPS transmitter, RFID technology has gotten to the point where a completely cashless society is possible.

Well, which is it?

Something struck me as funny on the way home from running an errand today.

Those trying to spin their way out of the homeless shelter said that these people are not homeless and that they are providing them "safe, affordable housing".

Did they just admit that downtown is not safe?

Some good news for the Tulsa

While most everyone else has watched the value of their houses drop by an average of 17% over the last year, Tulsa's home values have increased 2.3% in the same time period.

Homeless math

In trying to soften the effect of this homeless shelter, the promoters are saying that most of the people living there are either on Social Security, Disability, or have jobs, and it is a way to provide "safe, affordable housing". There are 76 rooms, and will accommodate 140 residents, at a cost of 300.00 per month (assuming this is "per person" as it is with the "Y")

So 140 people, into 76 rooms, means that most people will be sharing a room. (This is another assumption because the "Y" downtown houses 140 people… unless the city is going to throw 64 more people out onto the streets)

The average 1br Apartment in Tulsa is $545 a month… so $300x2 = $600 which is more than the average… a quick search on apartments.com revealed 14 different apartment complexes where the rent is $400 or less a month.

Have you figured it out yet?

They don’t care what you think. About the location of the arena, about the push to “revitalize” downtown, about the river, about the noise at the airport, about tearing down buildings downtown for more parking, about moving gov’t offices into the borg cube, about tearing down icons along route 66, about a south Yale bridge, about the double standard for Bell’s & Big Splash, about ruining chances for a 41st street bridge to the west bank, about running developers away from downtown, and now about the new homeless shelter.

And I hope by now you realize that David Patrick doesn’t care about his constituents. He is 0 for 2 on representing them

They sit in their gated communities, or their lush mansions in midtown trying to figure out ways of cleaning out downtown and raising their property values without caring one whit about everyone else in town. I think they would be happy if we all went away.

Can't say I feel sorry for them

Thanks to SemGroup filing bankruptcy, BOk lost 45 million dollars. Now they know how the citizens of Tulsa feel having to pay for a bankrupt Great Plains airlines.

Who’s backyard?

Last week it was unveiled that a 6 story multi-million dollar “hotel” would be built for the chronically homeless at 10 S. Yale… 4 miles from established services for the homeless that are already downtown.

Those for the project are referring to the dissenters as NIMYs (short for “Not in my backyard”)

So who are some of these neighbors that will be affected? You need to look beyond just a one or two block area, as this will have an effect in at least a one mile radius, especially if there are good “targets” available.

Businesses along Admiral between Harvard and Sheridan, which includes a busy QuikTrip and Sonic. These business will have their customers harassed by panhandlers.
To the north is Owen elementary and a older lower/middle income residential area. Since bus routes have been changed there will be a lot more children walking in that area.
To the south there is White City whose property values will decrease, especially the closer they are to the “hotel” as well as Rogers High School.

If you extend the radius out a bit more to one and a half miles you will include the fairgrounds and TU (I wonder if they are involved, they have a history of driving down property values so they can snatch them up at bargain prices)

These residents have a right to be upset, especially since their councilor didn’t even bother to represent them (I can guarantee you that Roscoe would have fought for them).

One thing I wonder is, was the arena location picked by the same people?

China to overtake US...

...as largest manufacturer

The story blames the weak dollar, I blame the short sighted corporations, which put profits before their own country. When was the last time you saw something made in the USA (without activly hunting it down)?

I think it is safe to say

That Jerry Giordano is gone, or soon will be, from KTUL, for his drunk driving hit and run incident. I dont watch the local news so I dont know first hand, but his picture is gone from their banner.

Do they really want downtown development?

Ill present the evidence, you can make up your own mind.

1) Despite going to Indianapolis to learn how they made their arena & downtown work, our arena was put in an area where little to no private growth can happen.

2) Despite being cheaper to build-to-suit, our city Gov't moves into the "nicest" building downtown, thus removing it from the market as potential rental property.

3) Despite being the kind of development that everyone wants downtown,The TDA ends negotiations with Lofts @ 120, a multi-million dollar mixed use project.

Get your kicks on Route 66, just not in Tulsa

That's what Paul McCartney did Tuesday night in a stop in OKC on his Route 66 tour in a 1989 Ford Bronco (That's not very environmentally friendly). To bad Tulsa has done such a pathetic job of promoting the "Mother Road" considering the person whose idea it was is from Tulsa... maybe you have heard of him, Cyrus Avery?

Just an example of another missed opportunity.

Pelosi interview...

Earlier today House Speakerette Pelosi, while on vacation and pushing her new book, was answering questions at the Washington Post.

This answer smacks of her arrogance:

Fargo, North Dakota: Do you believe that members of the US House should vote the way their constituents want them to vote?

Nancy Pelosi: I always encourage incoming Members of Congress to follow the three Cs - the Constitution, their conscience, and their constituents - and remind them that their title and their job description are the same: representative.

It is up to each elected official to balance their responsibilities to the three Cs and to explain that balance to their constituents. We will not always agree with our elected officials 100% of the time, but we can expect them to do what they believe is right.

In otherwords, concerning the energy policy "yeah, I say I want them to vote the way the constituants want, but I wont let them..." so, just who do you represent Nancy?

What's a matter Barry? Chicken?

Barack Hussein Obama has waffled yet again, this time it was on his "any time any where" pledge to debate Juan McCain. Instead he has agreed to 3 traditional debates as opposed to the townhall type debates that Juan McCain wanted... whats that noise I hear?

There is green and then there is green

T. Boone Pickens has been touting his energy plan lately but don’t think he’s doing it because he really cares about li’l ol’ planet earth, no he’s looking to jump on the green wagon to make a little green. He has seen how effective Al Gore has been in cashing in on the green scare and wants some of that money for himself. Why else would he support Gore being an Energy Czar if Obama is elected? Its kinda like the whole green initiative that MSNBC was pushing earlier this year, MSNBC is owned by GE, who stands to profit nicely if we buy into their scare mongering.

While we are finding a long-term solution (nothing offered is realistic or even feasible in the short term) we need to tap our own resources, both for economic stability and for national security. And for those that will argue "we wont see any of it for 10 years", do you expect this problem to go away by then?
