Airport noise update

the noise information provided by Boeing Company about Tulsa Internation Airport has been updated... here are my comments on the previous report

Considering the situation at Layman Van Acres I am not suprised by this entry:

Airport Noise Contour Overlay Maps - Unknown

Those maps tell a story about how a certain neighborhood is being repeatedly denied proper treatment by the TIA...

History Repeats itself...

The United Nations, which had done little to prevent the outbreak of war, was now insisting Israel should stop.

the above quote is from a book called Armageddon, Oil and the Middle East Crisis by John F Walvoord, which was given to me by a former pastor of my parents church...

It was written in 1974...

Gog, Magog

Im not suprised, are you?

Russia rejects sanctions against Iran

A real opportunity

I dont like "reality" shows, in fact I cant stand them (and American Idol is not a reality show, its a talent contest). The latest chapter in Survivor will split the groups along racial lines, white, black, asian & hispanic...

Liu, who is Asian-American, said he was launching a campaign urging CBS to pull the show because it could encourage racial division and promote negative typecasts. He and a coalition of officials, including the council's black, Latino and Asian caucus, planned to rally at City Hall on Friday.

I would see this as an opportunity to cast away those stereotypes, it can be done, it might require a bit of work, but it could show that people are just that... people... it doesnt matter what color you are. However, it is up to the various races (why do we call differnt skin pigments races?) to crush the negative stereotypes, by allowing the negative behavior to flourish without condeming it just reinforces those stereotypes.

Why should a single person like Bill Cosby have to scold their respective communities? shouldnt the community as a whole look down and publicly hold them responsible? The same can be said about the Muslims, I rarely hear any public outcry from that community denouncing the acts of the terrorists. Keeping silent shows support.

Speaking of Bill Cosby... I wonder if Al Sharpton has been listening to him?

We have got to get out of this gangster mentality, acting as if gangsterism and blackness are synonymous

I think we've allowed a whole generation of young people to feel that if they're focused, they're not black enough. If they speak well and act well, they're acting white, and there's nothing more racist than that.

More Minimum Wage nonsense

Now the Chreokee Nation wants to get in on the act, raising the minimum wage for tribal workers to $7.25 in three years. If a person is a hard worker, and wants to get ahead, they WILL make more than minimum wage, but by raising the wages for everyone wether they are worth it or not, just hinders those that want to get ahead.

realistically, this is nothing more than a feel good measure that helps nobody, and in the case of the lower middle class it hurts them.

Liotta Calls for Appointment of Airport Neighbor

State Rep. says area resident will bring unique perspective

(Tulsa) - State Representative Mark Liotta called on Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor to appoint an airport area neighbor to the Board of Trustees of the Tulsa Airport Authority. “Mayor Taylor has an opportunity to appoint to the Board, someone who actually lives within the traffic and sound footprint of the airport”, said Liotta. “This would be a great first step toward ensuring that all parts of Tulsa are given a voice.”

“The board could only benefit from the perspective of an individual who understands the local effects of the airport on a daily basis.” he said. "Among the many active neighborhood leaders who are also airport area residents, there should be no problem finding someone willing and uniquely able to serve their community."

The position became available when current member Brigadier General Ron Turner asked that his name be removed from consideration. General Turner had served on the board since 2002.

Liotta continued, “This individual would be keenly aware of the concerns of Tulsans who live within a mile radius of the airport, including neighborhood cohesion, street traffic patterns, industrial and commercial development, as well as airport noise abatement.”

Rep. Liotta suggested that relations between the airport and its neighbors could be improved, “The best way to maintain good neighbors is by maintaining communication, and putting a neighbor on the board can certainly improve communication. This should have been a requirement for at least one of the board positions when the board was originally developed.”

Representative Liotta’s House district encompasses the entire Tulsa International Airport and all the surrounding neighborhoods. Liotta has served in the House since 1996.

Welcome to my nightmare!

In what I can say was the best concert I have ever atteneded, Alice Cooper and opening local act New Science rocked the *sold out Brady Theater last night, mixing classics with newer stuff that traversed the 5 decades that his career touched... which was apparent by the age group of those in the audience which ranged from 6-60.

The 58 year old Alice Cooper put on an hour and a half show that would wear out a much younger act. The show opened with his band dressed in black wearing phantom of the opera masks, those were shed after the first song. the interaction with the audience was entertaining and it looked like he was enjoying putting on his show.

A new addition to the act is his daughter who played various roles on the stage ranging from a vampire, a battered wife and eventually Paris Hilton which had everybody in stitches... especially when her teacup "dog" attacked her and she pulled herself off the ground with a "bloody" face.

The stage was set up in two tier fashion with an open coffin, and a guillotine which was eventually used to lop the Coops head off. It was a Macabre stageshow that didnt take itself seriously at all.

The opening act, New Science, also impressed me. they were a last minute addition to the line up when Jada Pinkett Smith's (Will Smiths wife) band Wicked Wisdom was no longer on the marquee. again, it looked like they were having fun, which counts for a lot, they were tight, had a grungish sound (I thought the vocals reminded me a bit of Alice In Chains, but it was hard to tell)

All in all it was a great time for all

* it looked sold out

High Stakes...

I'm sure by now most people have heard that Michael DelGiorno of 1170 KFAQ was banned from the Cherokee Casino for an incident that happened back in August of 2005. Personally I'm of the belief that you should practice what you preach, and he has preached loudly against casinos & the lottery in this state, so have I, but I will admit, I have purchased a few lottery tickets (less than $10 but that still doesn't excuse it).

We aren't perfect, nobody is, unfortunately Michael is in the public eye, especially since he has been like a pit bull when it came to things like Great Plains, Roadhouse Aviation, Recall, Cinnabar, F&M bank, The Arena & vision 2025 in general, and the south Tulsa Bridge. Do you honestly think the World would have made a peep out of the situation if he hadn’t raised the public awareness of their deceit?

Why pile on now almost a year after the incident, another local "news outlet” reported this back in October of last year. My guess is to discredit a couple of candidates who are running against those wanting a south Yale bridge, namely Medlock and Perry.

Some people are cheering in the background saying they will be glad when he is gone, what’s a matter? Do don’t know how to change the radio dial, or are you afraid that what he has been spouting will hurt your agenda?

Yes what he did was wrong, and we haven’t heard his side of the story, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. At least he wasn’t out tearing down historic buildings down town for AC units and a parking lot…

Since Michael is professed Christian, I think this verse in the book of John is very appropriate here:
"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."
but it must be followed by this verse:
"go, and sin no more."

The Road to Hell

Lord Phillips of Sudbury is quoted "You do not secure the liberty of our country and value of our democracy by undermining them, that's the road to hell."

This is in reference to a law passed in the UK that made it illegal to refuse to decrypt files on a computer.

Ben Franklin also had something to say about this…

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I noticed this...

Tribes on threshold of tourism boom

while we were on our vacation we noticed how the Native Americans in Colorado and New Mexico were "marketed", so to speak. The culture, the history, the legends and the people all were at the forefront. My wife and I, as tourists, were looking for that sort of thing, we were looking at the history of the area, the ruins of Aztec New Mexico, the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde, and it didnt stop at the Native Americans, we also looked at the history behind the silver mines in the mountains, we went out of our way to find the ghost towns, as well as study up on the narrow guage railroads that went through though the area.

That is what needs to be driven into the heads of our developers and so called city leaders. Some people come to a city looking for entertainment, but to do that you have to compete with the likes of Silver Dollar City and Six Flags, Im guessing there are far more people than they want to admit that want to know about an areas history... the oil (and the beautiful buildings downtown that are a testament to those years), the cowboys, the indians, the mother road, Will Rogers all of these things add up to what Tulsa is. Unfortunatly we are controlled by some very selfish and short sighted people who think our salvation will be found in an 18,000 seat arean in the middle of a concrete jungle with no room for anything to grow around it!

If what I read is correct...

Tulsa will be losing yet another landmark off of route 66 forever. On August 28th, The Metro Diner will be closing its doors for good, just so TU can have a "front" lawn, even though their address is 408 S Harvard and their main entrance is on Delaware.

Next time you get the urge, google "route 66 tulsa" and see how many of the landmarks that draw in tourists no longer exist... Meadowgold sign... gone... Starship Records and Tapes.... gone... and now the Metro Diner... gone...and  who knows what will be happening to the rose bowl.

Building by building we are throwing away our history (and not just on Route 66 either). The developers around town dont care about Tulsa, they care about the bottom line and will do anything they can to line their pockets (just look at the south Tulsa bridge)... after all they can always move (that is if they dont already live in the suburbs)

No Consequences?

In December the New York Times disclosed a secret program that allowed the Gov’t to monitor phone calls coming into and leaving the US going to foreign nations. In the last week we now have these stories…

Three Middle Eastern Men Found With 1000 Cell Phones (Michigan)

Local Links to Terrorist Arrests (Ohio)

You don’t think this has anything to do with that revelation, do you?

Nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide...

According to this article ID cards in the UK will "provide the Government with revenue, and detailed records of everybody's financial transactions and whereabouts."

There are also 30,000,000 surveillance cameras in the USA. "about 30 million video surveillance cameras in the United States shooting about four billion hours of footage every week. "

Michael Moore and I... agree?

"The continued decrease in attendance (for Hollywood films) is not because of piracy, videogames, or the Internet, it's because the movies aren't very good anymore" Moore says

Preach it!

I always though there was a double standard when it came to Israel, their "occupation", and their defence.

Olmert believe so as well...

Olmert tells Europe to stop preaching to Israel

"European countries attacked Kosovo and killed ten thousand civilians. Ten thousand! And none of these countries had to suffer before that from a single rocket."

If a Conservative blog posted this image...

...what do you think would have happened?

I guess since it was posted at the Huffington Post that makes everything ok!

Note: the image has since been removed, but the comments about it (at the bottom) remain...

Why do illegals get a pass?

From this article concerning LEGAL immigration...

"Generally, legal permanent residents, or "green card" holders, can apply for citizenship if they have lived in the country a certain number of years, speak English fluently and pass a citizenship exam."
