Cant say that Im surprised

Casa Bonita is closing its doors on Friday

It may be my wonderment of my youth playing tricks on me, but the last time
I went to eat there, the food was on par with Taco Mayo. It is my hope that
the facade will remain and it is not filled up with another thrift/dollar
store that has propagated in that area...

How much of a lie this time?

Moore representative, Paul Wesselhoft, is grandstanding again. This time he is saying he is getting “threatening” phone calls, and wants to punish those people making the calls, but how much of that is true and how much of that is an exaggeration? After all, he cant seem to get his facts straight about the dangers of pit bulls & their cousins.

To be honest, I can understand why someone would make a threat against him. These animals are part of our family, and people are getting frustrated at the rhetoric coming out of his office. I know I’m frustrated, he has spouted nothing but lies and half truths concerning these animals. To add insult to injury, this so-called “public servant” has yet to respond to my email concerning his proposed legislation.

Look at ME... LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

yeah, she's  grieving alright....

Things I have learned from watching the news on TV lately:

Something I recieved in the mail today...

The hurricane only hit black families' property.

New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.

Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.

New Orleans has no white people.

The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.

When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.

The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans; now the
city is welfare, looters and gang-free, and they are in your city.

White folks don't make good news stories.

Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead
bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.

Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.

Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give
you money for being stupid.

Is Tulsa a sports town?

This morning on KFAQ it was mentioned that Tulsa is ranked 107th in the nation in regards to sports, I have also seen batted around that Tulsa cannot support a professional team based on our track record. What is never mentioned however is just what kind of “professional” sports teams those consisted of, who they played and how long those leagues survived. The Drillers, Talons & Oilers are always shown as an example as to the poor support Tulsa provides, but in all three cases they are minor league and in the case of the Talons is a minor league franchise of a somewhat obscure form of football.

Tulsa’s most successful team, the Outlaws (average home attendance 21,038) stayed in Tulsa for a grand total of one season (1984), before they merged with the Oakland Invaders the next season to become the Arizona Outlaws… the league then folded after 3 seasons in 1986.

We have had many other “pro” teams in the football arena, one being the Oklahoma Fire, which went from playing in the Broken Arrow’s stadium one weekend to a grass field up at 36th Street North & Cincinnati (In which the visiting teams locker-room was broken into and all personal items were stolen.)

The Tulsa Roughnecks soccer franchise was another semi popular team from 1978-1984, which IMO was before its time.

The Tulsa Fastbreakers was one of Tulsa’s “pro” basketball teams from the Continental Basketball Association, a development league for the NBA, again with very little following, playing such powerhouse teams as the Quad City Thunder & Wichita Falls Texans.

So is Tulsa not a sports town because we aren’t interested in sports, or is it because we end up with development leagues and/or startup leagues that fold within a few years and/or play teams that nobody cares about? Would things be any different if we were playing teams like the Dallas Cowboys, or the Detroit Pistons?

More Route 66 destruction

Goodbye Starship Records (yeah they are moving, but more of the nostalgia of the mother road is being bulldozed by irresponsible, short-sighted, people who obviously dont care about Tulsa's past)

BTW, if it is so important that TU has a "front" why don't they do so where their "front" is?

Where will they go?

Now that the New Orleans Convention business is shot where will the conventions go? If you look at this story, its not going to go to places like Omaha…

"For those that had planned to go to New Orleans," says Bower, "you're looking at convention markets in Las Vegas, Orlando, Chicago and San Diego"--all cities whose large hotel offerings and conference venues landed them in the top ten on the Washington, D.C.-based Travel Industry Association of America's top ten cities for convention, conference and seminar travel.

But even then, at what cost? Convention Centers around the country are losing money.

The so-called experts who are consulted concerning convention centers rarely advise against expansion of convention space. even as convention attendance falls off

"You lose clients if you shoot down projects. They've already made up their minds by the time they come to us," he says.

Hypocrisy runs deep...

In the last election cycle for Governor, the teachers union twisted Steve Largent’s words around [GASP!]. He said to help save the state some money and improve education he would consolidate school districts. The teachers union made it sound like Mr. Largent wanted to close schools. Now, a couple of years later we are finding out that Gov. Henry’s lottery plan will do the same thing (actually it is not clear wether it will consolidate districts or schools) … where is the teachers union now?

The fact of the matter is we have 544 school districts and only 77 counties, each with a superintendent making in excess of 60k a year, and many with less than 500 students per district… It is prudent to consolidate that administrative bloat at the top and funnel that money down to where it is needed. Too bad we had to get saddled with a lottery that wont do anything but hurt the working poor.

FEMA + FAA = Layman Van Acres solution?

FEMA’s new director said they are looking for permanent housing for displaced New Orleans residents.

FAA says the houses in Layman Van Acres should be bought out, at least on a voluntary basis

Maybe FEMA & the FAA can work together to to buy out those that want out of the area, and provide an opportunity for those who have no home at all?

Win-win situation if you ask me…

Aggies kill Pistol Pete

In a move of Political Correctness, Pistol Pete's twin brother at New Mexico State has been disarmed, instead he has been given a lasso. This move is reminicent of the NCAAs ruling concerning Native American mascots... dont want to offend anyone you see...

Waste of Money

A pit bull owner sent me an article concerning Aurora, CO's proposed Pit Bull ordinance.

What the honest, responsible, law abiding Pit Bull owners have been saying all along is that it is a waste of money and unenforceable. Apparently Aurora has figured out that the ordinance will cost the city money that they dont  have to spend.

We Won!

Voters Overwhelmingly Reject State Question 723
One comment in the story should show you the bias/spin of the media..."Currently, Oklahoma has the region's lowest state tax on unleaded gasoline at 17 cents per gallon". While this may be technically true, we also have the most turnpikes in the region (in the nation even, second only to New Jersey)

Bleak for who?

Outlook Bleak For Proposed Fuel Tax Hike

On a side note, isnt it amazing how quickly my graphic became "history"?

I wish we were only paying 2.50 a gallon!

Sad but true...

When I got home from work last night, my wife demanded that I take her out to some place expensive...............

So I took her to a gas station!!!!!!!

Is it really about race?

Several on the loony left have said that the problems concerning the devastation in New Orleans is due to the race of people who inhabited the area... and they are right, but the problem isn’t in the conservative's side of the court, its on the liberal's side. After all, they are the ones who encouraged those people to not be self dependent, they are the ones who say you cant achieve anything without the gov'ts help, they are the ones who created the welfare state that so many in New Orleans are dependant upon...

so leftists, before you go pointing fingers about the so-called racisism on the right side of the aisle, maybe you need to look at yourselves for implying that underprivileged blacks aren’t smart enough to do anything without your helping hand...

Stopping at the Intersection

He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hit the roof, and started honking the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection.  As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.  After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. "I noticed the'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.  Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

Dress Rehersal?

Was the reaction to Katrina just a dress rehersal to the possible catastophic event that might be just around the corner? Instead of affecting 4 states a major earthquake on the New Madrid fault line will have an impact on 24 states with a 7 suffering a direct hit, so to speak.

What will the reaction be by the inhabitants of those states? What about the gov't? What kind of preparation is being done by the local gov'ts now? Im not talking about handholding here, Im talking about plans, plans to help people in a major incident. and what are YOU doing about it? Personally, I have earthquake insurance, and according to my agent I'm one of the few.

This is not him

Poor Baby....

On Tuesday, the Grammy-winning rapper (Kayne West) did not elaborate on his comments at the "Concert for Hurricane Relief." Looking glum, West sidestepped questions about the remarks, noting that the week's events have been "a lot of pressure for one human being."

And just what pressure is he under? spoiled little rich punk...

Bob Denver dead at 70

Goodbye little buddy

No More!

After hearing LaFortune's ranting at the groundbreaking and later hearing plans to pump yet another 20 million into downtown using 3rd penny funds (specifically the East Village and yet another sports venue) I'm tempted to not vote for the 3rd penny extension...

LaFortune said "But today I say to you: No more! No more to Oklahoma City, no more to Des Moines, no more to Omaha! Tulsa is alive and well!"

well I say to you "No more! No more to Bill LaFortune, no more to Wasting our money Downtown, no more to the 3rd Penny! Tulsa is more than downtown!"

If the Gov't cant spend our money properly, then its time to take our money back... you dont reward bad behavior.

It's the end of the world as we know it

What we witnessed in New Orleans is just a snapshot of what the end times will look like, people acting like animals, looting, rioting, raping & killing and the gov’t not being able to do a damn thing about it. I’m not blaming any one person as to what happened, how can you? It was a natural disaster of enormous proportions. The federal gov’t failed, the state gov’t failed, the local gov’t failed, and the people failed!

Where were the people looking out for their neighbors? Why did the local gov’t allow 255 busses to drown when the state emergency evacuation plan clearly calls for their use?

Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00

'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'

Yet here they sit while people died… http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/050901/480/flpc21109012015

The Gov’t is corrupt and ineffective from the top down, sometimes they don’t even know it! (just look at our own mayor LaFortune) The people are becoming increasingly dependant on the gov’t for even the most basic necessities, you have to get permission from the gov’t to do almost anything, heck, we literally don’t even own our own private property anymore, we are just renters… don’t believe me? Try not paying your property tax and see what happenes

The poor in New Orleans depend so much on gov’t, that when the gov’t isn’t there to hold their hand they don’t know what to do.

And what about those looters, rapists & murderers that are left marauding in the streets and terrorizing the local population, isn’t that what mankind is really supposed to be doing? After all, we are just animals that evolved out of some primordial stew! That’s what our children have been taught for the last 30 or so years. Take God out of the mix and last week in New Orleans is the result.

I know this is a meandering rant, but my mind is so clouded with the events of last week and they all seem to flow together, the lack of organization by all levels of gov’t, the ineffectiveness of the relief effort (even though it took only 4 days to get there), the talking heads pointing fingers, and the pure barbarism that was taking place on the streets

Making Political Hay

Some people will do anything to advance their personal agendas, including outright lie…

There are two such instances in the news right now, Katrina was caused by Global Warming and Pit Bulls are dangerous animals.

By the numbers….

According to the NOAA we are on track for an average hurricane season. so far (2001-2004) we have had 9 hurricanes, 3 of category 3 or higher… in the span of 1941-1950 there were 24 hurricanes, 10 of which were category 3 or higher

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (so called) pit bulls accounted for 1/3 of fatal dog attacks. On the surface that sounds bad… what is not mentioned is that in the last 25 years there have been around 300 fatal dog attacks… 300...

Do you remember?

11 days from now will mark the 4 year anniversary of the day America was attacked, I put together a web page in the days following that fateful event, scouring the news for information, answers and encouragement. I ran across the pictures and articles and put them together on a page to hopefully bring some sort of sense to 9/11. if not for others, for me. I'm reposting the page, because it seems some people have forgotten what happened.
